River Tergi in Dariali Gorge is being cleaned from landslide debris

20 February 2017

Works for liquidation of the results of natural disaster on Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motor road, Dariali Gorge continue. Contracting authority for the works is the Roads Department of Georgia. The project is funded from the state budget. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia visited the site along with the Head of the State Construction Company of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Shengelia, to see the works.
Full cost of the project amounts to around GEL 3 mln and it currently employs 15 people. The works serve to cleaning of river Tergi from debris, which will solve the problem of damming up  of the River. In addition, after constructing a tunnel in the Gorge traffic flow will be unobstructed on the international road.
Within the frames of preventive measures of natural disasters, construction of evacuation corridor at Larsi border-crossing point “Kazbegi” was finished last year. The project’s importance is enhanced due to the fact that it ensures safe movement for the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-larsi international road users, border-crossing point staff and construction workers from the disaster zone to the evacuation destination in case of landslides, floods and other natural disaster, in difficult terrain.
