Khertvisi Fortress will welcome tourist with renewed infrastructure

Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia completed arrangement of major part of tourist infrastructure at the Khertvisi Fortress. The project started last year and was implemented by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia through financing of the World Bank. Total cost of the project amounted to GEL 1.7 mln. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mrs. Maya Tskitishvili and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili visited the site. The project covered full rehabilitation of administrative building and visitor center, arrangement of pavement, rehabilitation of a gate, arrangement of water supply system, construction of a parking lot, waiting area and a toilet. “The territory of the Fortress was practically inaccessible before. Now, in addition to making the fortress attractive to tourists, renewed infrastructure will enable the region, to generate income” – Mrs. Tskitishvili said. Maya Tskitishvili and Levan Davitashvili visited Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti tourist locations. The visit aimed at use of tourist potential of the two regions, construction of modern infrastructure at tourist center, bringing new life to historic locations and introduction of innovations to protected areas that will increase the number of tourists.
