Kobuleti will meet the tourist season with upgraded coastline

6 March 2017

Roads Department is carrying out bank protection works of the coastline in Kobuleti, on King Tamar Street.
In the summer, tourists, guests and local residents will be able to use upgraded and safe coastline.
Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Zurab Alavidze together with the representatives of Roads Department inspected ongoing works.
Due to the large deficit of beach forming material, the coastline is in unstable condition. Its parameters cannot ensure retention of storm waves, which damage existing stepped bank protection wall. The damage was quite sever in 2014-2015.
In order to protect the coastline and to resolve existing problems, parameters of the coastline will be increased. The volume of beach forming material to be placed in the deteriorated area amounts to 195 000 m3. After implementation of works, coastline parameters will be increased, impact of waves on the stepped bank protection wall during storms will be reduced.
The project is financed by the state budget and its cost is GEL 2 271 087. The project started on February 14 this year and will be completed by the end of April. A total of 50 people are employed in the works.
