Maya Tskitishvili – Contractors will be held responsible for failing to fulfill commitments

23 April 2018

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mrs. Maya Tskitishvili and the Chairman of the Government of Adjara Autonomous Republic, Mr. Zurab Pataridze got familiar with the situation along the shoreline of the Black Sea as tourist season starts soon. Minister and the Chairman visited the site along with the Mayor of Kobuleti and other representatives of Kobuleti Municipality.

Last autumn Municipal Development Fund under the Minister started rehabilitation of shore protection wall in Kobuleti through the World Bank financing.  The project was to be completed this year, before the tourist season started; however, the construction company halted the works which resulted into protests from local population.

Minister delivered the information to the local population, Government of Adjara and the representatives of local self-government on the actions to be taken to solve the issue.

According to the Minister, the company will be held responsible for non-fulfilment of commitments.

“Unfortunately the situation is pretty poor. We decided to get the State Construction Company involved in the works. The company will start working from May 1st. This will enable us to complete a significant part of the project before the tourist season starts and to improve the existing situation dramatically” – Mrs. Maya Tskitishvili said.

Last year around 2 million tourists visited Adjara – costal region of Georgia. According to Mrs. Tskitishvili and Mr. Pataridze, it is extremely important to ensure comfortable environment for the growing number of visitors.

After finishing shore protection works in Kobuleti, a new boulevard will be arranged, shoreline parameters will be broadened, wave impact at the time of storm will decrease – all this will enable tourist and locals to enjoy protected and comfortable shoreline.

Zurab Pataridze thanked the Minister for being interested in the matter. According to the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, those problematic sections, full rehabilitation of which will not be managed for this summer, will be paved and cleaned temporarily. In order to finish the project, works will be renovated as soon as the season finishes.
