Maya Tskitishvili requested explanations from construction and supervision companies on violation of timeframes of projects

23 April 2018

Maya Tskitishvili held a meeting with the representatives of construction and supervision companies – Alliance and Eptisa. Topic of discussion was rehabilitation of a shore protection wall in Kobuleti and arrangement of a new boulevard. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure assessed the construction process strictly and requested explanations on violation of project timeframes from the companies.

Representatives of Alliance LTD named sea shore peculiarities as a reason for delays.

“Yesterday we saw the situation on sites. The situation is beyond the worst expectation.  When you decided to participate in the bidding, you should have been aware of the peculiarities of the seashore. As we have found out, representative of the supervision company was also warning you from time to time that in order to stick with the timeframes, you would need more human resources and equipment. However, this still remained an obstacle for you” – Mrs. Maya Tskitishvili said.

According to the Minister, it is already decided that the State Construction Company will enter into the project and start the works from May 1 in order to finalize this important project before the tourist season. The contractor company will finish only the works it has started.

Rehabilitation of protection wall and boulevard in Kobuleti is funded by the World Bank while the implementing agency is the Municipal Development Fund. The project was intended to be finished this year, before the tourist season; however, the contractor company stopped the works, which was protested by the locals.

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mrs. Maya Tskitishvili and Chair of Autonomous Region of Adjara became familiar with the situation in Kobuleti yesterday, along with the Mayor of Kobuleti and representatives of the municipality.
