Rehabilitation of Zugdidi Botanical Garden is starting

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Zurab Alavidze attended kicking off of rehabilitation works over Zugdidi Botanical Garden together with the representatives of local authorities. The project is funded by the World Bank and its total cost amounts to GEL 12 mln. According to Mr. Alavidze, not only local population but broad public have been expecting rehabilitation of the Botanical Garden for decades. “I am glad that we have already made a significant step forward in these works. Zugdidi will have renovated Botanical Garden with modern infrastructure” – Mr. Alavidze said. As Mr. Minister said, implementation of this project is important to further highlight tourist potential of the regions, which will have positive influence on social condition of the population and create additional incentives for attracting investments to the region. Mr. Alavidze thanked all the people who are taking care of the rare plants protected at the Botanical Garden. “I’d like to wish success all who have made their contribution in successful implementation of this important project.” The project covers rehabilitation of the buildings within the Garden territory, construction of water supply system, water supply of the existing artificial lake and headwork. Strolling paths will be arranged and public water closets will be installed. Boxes for cashier’s office and the security guards will be arranged at the entrance. Rehabilitation works will be finished in June, 2019. The works are carried out by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia.
