Rehabilitation of Zugdidi Botanical Garden continues

Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mr. Ilia Begiashvili visited Zugdidi Botanical Garden with the representatives of local authorities, to see the ongoing rehabilitation works. The project implementing agency is the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, while the funding comes from the World Bank. Total cost of the project amounts to around GEL 12 mln. Infrastructure in Zugdidi Botanical Garden was damaged and required rehabilitation. The project covers rehabilitation of the buildings and fence on the territory of the Garden, arrangement of water supply, water discharge and drainage systems, as well as arrangement of water supply and headworks for the artificial lake in the Garden, walking tracks and construction of public water closets. At this stage construction of a gardener’s apartment, sentry box and ticket office buildings are underway. 120 people are employed for the ongoing works. After completion of the project around 70 people will be employed at the renewed infrastructure facility. Improvement of Zugdidi Botanical Garden will increase of the number of tourists. It will create favorable environment for further development of tourism in the city. The project is intended to be completed by June, 2019.
