Relevant Services Mobilized for Elimination of Precipitation-induced Problems

Due to the problems caused by heavy rains, vehicle traffic is interrupted in several regions of Georgia. Representatives of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia are mobilized in every challenging section and continue operations all day round. Currently, traffic is blocked in Makhinjauri section of Senaki-Poti-Sarpi motor road; cleaning works are underway in Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale and Borjomi-Bakuriani road sections. Traffic is released at km 3 of Saglolo-Chiora-Ghebi and Rikoti tunnel access road sections. Traffic along Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motor road is unrestricted for all types of vehicles, while Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road is free only for off-road vehicles. Earth and rock slide occurred at km28-km64 section of Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road, for which reason since yesterday evening traffic of all vehicle types has been restricted here. As a result of intensive operations, the road was successfully cleaned in the shortest possible time. Roads Department of Georgia addresses the population to refrain from travelling to the natural disaster zone, except for the case of emergency, in order to prevent traffic jams and ensure safe traffic. Yesterday, mudflow has damaged headworks and main pipeline of water supply system in Kazbegi, in consequence of which major part of local population is not supplied with water. The water carrier of United Water Supply Company of Georgia is on the spot and for several hours straight has been providing the population, public centers, and tourist facilities with water; there are also relevant machinery and emergency response teams mobilized there. Right after improvement of climatic conditions, the Company will start rehabilitation works at the headworks and main pipeline for restoration of water supply to the village. Heavy rain has posed problems to several Municipalities of Ajara and Samegrelo. Abundance of precipitations has above all caused damage to Senaki and Martvili; Chkhorotsku, Zugdidi and Khobi Municipalities are also facing problems. Mayors and local authorities are everywhere engaged in elimination of the consequences of natural disaster. In the affected municipalities, emergency response and patrol force staff is working on a 24-hour basis, crews of “Energo-pro Georgia” are dealing with power supply restoration works. Deputy Ministers of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia - Irakli Karseladze, Ilia Begiashvili and Grigol Katsia are involved in the works for elimination of natural disaster consequences. There are no injuries resulting from natural disaster reported in the Regions of Georgia; there is a special Evaluating Commission in place for damage assessment.
