Taking care for strengthen municipalities is being actively continued together with the EU

Council of Europe and the European Union, together with the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, implements the first joint project "Strengthening the institutional framework for local self-government" in Georgia. Deputy Minister of the Regional Development and Infrastructure Tengiz Shergelashvili took a part in the joint review of the project.

The Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Ukraine) are included in the mentioned project which aims supporting the current self-government reform, strengthening of the municipalities and improve their legal framework.

The project has two main directions: 1. Inter-municipal co-operation; 2. supporting of the central and local governments to improve the management system of the financial and human resources.

At the first phase of the project, it will be implemented in pilot municipalities.  At the next stage the project will be spread throughout the country.
