The coast protection works are underway near Ambrolauri Airport

The Roads Department is carrying out coast protection rehabilitation works of the River Rioni riverbed in the vicinity of Ambrolauri airport runway.
The construction of the coastal wall is being constructed on 4 polling stations, in total 1037 meter section, by means of new technologies.
The new technology implies the use of exposed and crushed mass cement and grass in a specific amounts. The protective wall is reinforced by concrete layer of basalt grid. This technology is used for the first time in Georgia. The advantage of new technology is to decrease construction costs and accelerate the pace.
As a result of the implementation of the project, the coastal premises will protect the airport, surrounding area and the river Rioni coastline from flooding.
Works are funded from the state budget and its value is 2 011 000 GEL. The project commenced in December 2016 and will be completed in summer of this year. Around  70 persons are employed at the project site.
