Ureki will have water supply and waste water system of modern standards
29 April 2018
A water treatment facility, purifying waste water in full compliance with biological cycle, will be commissioned by the end of the year in Ureki. This will significantly reduce the threat of pollution and will improve living conditions both of locals and tourists. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mrs. Maya Tskitishvili, Head of the United Water Supply Company, Mr. Giorgi Koberidze and State Representative-Governor in Guria, Mr. Merab Chanukvadze visited the site to see the pace of construction. There was no central system of water supply and waste water in the resort zone. The project started in 2014 by the United Water Supply Company of Georgia. Because of the difficulties identified during the construction phase, significant changes were made to the project. The project is intended to be finished by the end of this year. “Ureki has never had a centralized water supply and waste water system. It is a large-scale project. Implementation of this project will significantly reduce pollution and ensure continuous water supply to local population. The number of tourists visiting Ureki and other towns along the Black Sea coast is growing which makes it necessary to ensure comfortable living conditions for them“ – Mrs. Tskitishvili said. Total cost of construction of water supply and waste water systems in Ureki amounts to more than GEL 78 mln. The projects are funded by the Asian Development Bank.
